Given the primacy of the education of women and girl child education in the socio-economic development of any society particularly developing economies in sub-Saharan Africa, it is noteworthy and commendable that the wife of the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Hajiya Aishatu Bala Mohammed has taken cogent and purposeful steps to ensure the enrolment of girls and women in all educational institutions of the state. This enrolment drive has earned the First Lady of Bauchi State, Hajiya Aishatu Bala Mohammed deserved kudos with many hailing her as a deserved “champion for gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Indeed, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed, has spearheaded several programmes aimed at improving the educational and economic status of women and girls in the state, which includes the provision of scholarships to indigent female students, and the training of women and girls in various vocational skills.

Apart from enrolling them in educational institutions, the First Lady is also empowering women and girls in skill acquisition and vocational training programs which is crucial to achieving sustainable development in their various communities and local governments spread across Bauchi State.

 Despite some cultural norms militating against such, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed has dedicated herself to improving the education of girls and women in the state and addressing the issues faced by young girls and women in Bauchi who are denied access to education due to cultural and societal norms.

The stated objectives of her Al-Muhibbah Foundation, a Non-governmental organisation is educating the girl-child and raising awareness of the disadvantages of early marriage. The NGO has also empowered widows, the infirm, the physically challenged and other vulnerable members of society across Bauchi State. The foundation also aims to increase access to education for girls by advocating for policies and programs that support their education as Hajiya Aishatu Bala Mohammed recognizes the importance of education in empowering women and improving their lives, and she believes that every girl should have the opportunity to go to school.

With her total dedication and absolute commitment towards educating and empowering the girl-child, women, youths and special needs persons, there is little doubt that First Lady Aishatu Bala Mohammed’s legacy shall continue to inspire new generations of leaders who are committed to creating a better future for all Nigerians. Her story shall remind us that even in the face of adversity, one person can make a significant impact on their community and beyond.
